Let’s respect all emergency protocols to protect the environment – Isaac Ashai Odamtten

The government and the citizenry must pay attention to emergency response protocols and directions going forward as the country is doing its best to address the flood havoc from the spillage from Akosombo that affects Volta, Eastern, and Greater Accra region.

The Member of Parliament for Tema West Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamptten discloses the Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor FM 92.3 in Accra.

He said there is a need for us as a country to respect the by-laws in protecting the environment. The encroachment going where most of our lagoons and green belts site has been filled with gravel is currently under threat.

He cautions that, with the spillage from Akosombo and the rising in the lagoon the sea, and all our tributaries it’s likely Sakumonor and Tema can be flooded.

He reiterated that let’s try to work on our settlement plans in the city; this he thinks can help to control the common occurrence of floods in some parts of the country.

Reacting to President Akufo-Addo’s comments in his engagement with the flood victim in the Volta region, Hon Odamptten said such comments from the first president of the land were very unfortunate and disappointing.

He expects the president to sympathize with the victims how he can help them out of this disaster, than thinking the Volta region is not part of Ghana.

He believes the government is going in the wrong direction, looking at the success story of the government without any strategic development and the worse economic hardship Ghanaians are going through.

He further commended all the members of parliament working hard in their various constituencies to address the problems affecting their constituents who have suffered from the spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong Dam respectively.

He called on other agencies and philanthropists to support any household items to support the people in these affected areas.
