ACCRA, Ghana, 14th October: President John Dramani Mahama has challenged Christians to demonstrate their faith through practical acts of service, compassion and support for vulnerable people in their communities.
He said religious commitment should not be limited to worship and declarations of faith but must translate into actions that improve people’s lives.
Speaking at the opening of the 10th Triennial Congress of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, President Mahama urged church leaders and members to strengthen the connection between preaching the Gospel and serving society.
“One of the most compelling ways to express our faith is through service,” he said.
The President explained that faith becomes meaningful when it responds to the everyday needs of people, including feeding hungry children, caring for patients, equipping young people with skills and supporting widows and struggling families.
“Our faith becomes tangible when a hungry child receives a meal. Our faith becomes tangible when a patient is treated with compassion,” he stated.
He encouraged delegates at the congress to renew their commitment to communities and ensure that the values promoted through worship are reflected in their daily conduct.
According to President Mahama, people who may never attend a major religious gathering should still experience its positive impact through the actions of Christians in workplaces, neighbourhoods and public institutions.
He cited the patience of teachers, honesty in business, compassion among health workers, fairness by employers and integrity among public servants as practical expressions of faith.
The President also linked Christian values to responsible leadership, saying public officials must demonstrate humility, honesty and respect for citizens.
He stressed that prayers offered for leaders should remind them of their obligation to serve conscientiously, particularly those whose voices are least likely to reach the centres of power.
President Mahama further encouraged the global church fellowship to establish partnerships that support disadvantaged communities, create opportunities for young people and assist congregations operating under difficult conditions.
He expressed hope that delegates would leave Ghana with practical commitments capable of making a lasting difference in their respective societies.
The 10th Triennial Congress of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship is being held under the theme, “Commissioned, One Mandate, Every Nation,” with more than 10,000 participants in attendance.
