Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has attracted public attention after requesting the contact details of a teacher who recently expressed frustration over poor working conditions at her school in the Oti Region.
The teacher, who teaches at Kotokogyane No. 2 in the Krachi East Municipality, reportedly voiced concerns about conditions at her school, saying she was prepared to lose her job rather than stay silent about the challenges she faces.
“This is where I teach, so why shouldn’t I post? If you want to terminate my appointment today, go ahead. I am ever ready,” she stated.
Her remarks, covered by BBC News Ghana, have sparked public discussion about teachers’ working conditions and the challenges educators face when speaking out about problems in their schools.
Reacting to a social media post about the teacher’s concerns, Dumelo publicly requested her contact details, writing: “Pls i need the contact details of the teacher. Thanks.”
His comment has generated positive reactions from social media users, with many expressing hope that the MP will reach out to the teacher and offer assistance.
Although Dumelo has not publicly disclosed what he intends to do after contacting her, his request has raised hopes among some users that the teacher’s concerns could receive further attention and potentially lead to support.
The development has also renewed conversations about the need to improve conditions in schools, particularly in communities where teachers may have to work under difficult circumstances.
For many social media users, the key question now is whether the MP’s interest will translate into practical support for the teacher and improvements in the conditions she has highlighted.
As the story continues to attract attention, the teacher’s experience has become another reminder of the importance of listening to educators and addressing the challenges that affect teaching and learning in Ghana.
