Ibrahim Sulemana Returns to Cagliari on Loan After Bologna Spell Cut Short

Ghanaian midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana has made a swift return to Cagliari on loan, rejoining the Sardinian club for the remainder of the 2025/26 season after his temporary spell at Bologna was brought to an early end.

The 22-year-old, who is currently owned by Atalanta, completed the move just before the January transfer window closed, with Cagliari securing an option to make the transfer permanent in June 2026.

Sulemana originally moved to Atalanta from Cagliari in the summer of 2024 for a significantly higher fee than the one he had arrived for earlier, but he was then sent out on a season-long loan to Bologna with an option to buy valued at around €11.5 million.

However, his time in Bologna proved frustrating and limited—he featured in just four competitive matches across Serie A and the Coppa Italia, accumulating only 112 minutes of playing time. With opportunities scarce, all parties agreed to terminate the loan prematurely, paving the way for his reunion with Cagliari.

This marks a welcome homecoming for Sulemana, who previously spent time with the Rossoblù and is familiar with the environment in Sardinia. The move is widely viewed as a positive step for the Black Stars player, who is eager to secure consistent first-team football and rebuild his momentum in Serie A.

Cagliari’s midfield now benefits from his return as they navigate the second half of the campaign, particularly with some injury concerns already affecting the squad. Fans and observers will be watching closely to see if he can recapture his best form and potentially trigger that permanent switch in the summer.
