Hope Seed Foundation Ghana Launched to Support Children with Special Needs and Caregivers Across Africa

Accra, Ghana — October 26, 2026

Hope Seed Foundation Ghana, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to supporting children and other individuals with special needs and their caregivers, has been officially launched in Accra with a call for stronger inclusion, improved access to care and increased support for vulnerable families across Africa.

The launch ceremony, held at the conference hall of Mission Clinic in Accra, formally introduced the foundation’s mission and activities to the public, although the organisation had been operational before the event. Its website, www.hopeseedfoundation.com, was already active, with profiles of children requiring assistance available for public viewing and a donation facility to enable individuals and organisations to contribute towards their needs.

The foundation aims to mobilise resources, combat social stigma and improve the quality of life of individuals with special needs through public education, strategic partnerships, crowdfunding and improved access to appropriate care.

Its establishment follows concerns raised by parents, caregivers, professionals and advocates about the difficulties faced by individuals with special needs, including inadequate support systems, financial constraints and limited access to specialised services.

Dr Marilyn Marbell-Wilson outlines foundation’s vision

In an address delivered on behalf of the Board Chairman, Kofi Osafo Sampong, Dr Marilyn Marbell-Wilson said the foundation was established on the principle that every individual, regardless of their abilities or challenges, deserves recognition, support and an opportunity to thrive.

She highlighted the difficulties confronting individuals with special needs and their caregivers across Africa, including limited access to appropriate care, financial challenges and insufficient public awareness.

Dr Marbell-Wilson stressed that supporting individuals with special needs requires attention not only to their diagnoses but also to the families responsible for their daily care.

According to the address, the foundation envisions an Africa where individuals with special needs are adequately represented in reliable data systems, have access to appropriate care and receive support from informed communities, committed partners and responsive public policies.

She explained that the foundation’s work would go beyond awareness creation to include practical interventions such as transparent crowdfunding, case management, clinical pathways, referrals and the development of a comprehensive registry of individuals with special needs and specialised care centres.

Crowdfunding platform to connect children with donors

A key component of the foundation’s activities is a customised crowdfunding platform designed to connect children and families requiring assistance with individuals and organisations willing to support them.

The initiative is intended to help mobilise financial resources, donations and essential services for families whose circumstances might otherwise receive little attention beyond their immediate communities.

The foundation also emphasised the importance of transparency and careful case management to ensure that assistance reaches the intended beneficiaries.

Foundation targets stigma and promotes inclusion

Hope Seed Foundation Ghana has identified public education, advocacy and community engagement as important tools for challenging the stigma associated with special needs.

The organisation hopes to promote greater understanding and acceptance while encouraging communities to create opportunities for individuals with special needs to participate fully in society.

Its vision is to help build communities where affected individuals are treated with dignity and have opportunities to learn, develop and access healthcare, education and other essential services.

The foundation maintains that inclusion should not be treated as a privilege but as a reality for everyone, regardless of their abilities or circumstances.

Plans cross-continental database of individuals with special needs

Another major objective of the foundation is to develop a comprehensive database mapping individuals with special needs alongside specialised care centres, schools and healthcare providers across Africa.

The proposed database is expected to improve information sharing, strengthen connections between families and service providers, and help identify available support services.

Through collaboration with caregivers, healthcare professionals, educational institutions, development partners and advocacy groups, the foundation hopes to contribute to a more coordinated approach to meeting the needs of individuals with special needs across the continent.

The initiative is also intended to support evidence-based advocacy and inform policies aimed at improving access to care and other essential services.

Caregivers included in foundation’s support agenda

The foundation has also highlighted the emotional, financial and practical pressures experienced by caregivers, many of whom shoulder significant responsibilities with limited assistance.

It is therefore calling on corporate organisations, healthcare professionals, development partners, policymakers, civil society organisations and the general public to support its work through donations, professional expertise, partnerships, referrals and advocacy.

The organisation believes collective action will be essential to expanding its reach and ensuring that more children, individuals with special needs and their families benefit from its interventions.

Public urged to support initiative

As part of its public engagement efforts, Hope Seed Foundation Ghana has encouraged individuals and organisations to visit its website, learn about the children featured on its crowdfunding platform and contribute towards supporting those in need.

The foundation says its official launch marks an important step towards translating awareness into practical assistance and building a future in which individuals with special needs are not overlooked and caregivers do not feel abandoned.

Through resource mobilisation, stronger community networks and strategic partnerships, the organisation hopes to improve access to healthcare, education, inclusion and opportunities for individuals with special needs to realise their potential.
