GFL Boss Raises Concern Over Slow ORAL Prosecutions, Urges Government to Sack Non-Performing, Politically Biased Staff

TEMA, Ghana, 4 April: Abraham Koomson, Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), has expressed deep concern over the slow pace of prosecutions involving individuals cited in the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) investigations.

According to him, the delay in legal proceedings is troubling and risks undermining public confidence in the government’s commitment to accountability and justice.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu show on Saturday, April 4, Mr. Koomson noted that he has been closely monitoring the progress of court cases related to the ORAL investigations but is dissatisfied with the speed at which they are being handled.

He called on the government to take decisive steps to address the situation, including identifying and dealing with any officials within the Attorney-General’s Department who may be unwilling to fully support the prosecution process.

Abraham Koomson suggested that individuals suspected of lacking commitment or demonstrating political bias should be reassigned to allow more dedicated and competent personnel to take over the cases. He argued that ensuring efficiency within the Attorney-General’s Office is critical to fast-tracking the ORAL prosecutions.

While commending the President’s decision to engage additional legal experts to support the Attorney-General in handling ORAL-related cases, Mr. Koomson stressed that more needs to be done internally to strengthen the prosecution process.

He further alleged that elements sympathetic to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) may be present within key institutions, potentially hindering progress. According to him, such challenges could make the work of the Attorney-General and his deputies more difficult.

He emphasized that the success of the ORAL initiative depends largely on the competence, neutrality, and commitment of those tasked with prosecuting the cases.

He therefore urged authorities to ensure that only capable and dedicated individuals are assigned to handle such critical national matters.
