The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reinforced its commitment to long-term planning and youth development by securing Black Starlets head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum on a two-year contract.
The decision marks a clear statement of intent from the Association as it seeks to restore the pride and competitiveness of Ghana’s U-17 national team on the continental stage. Dr. Ogum, who took over from Frimpong Manso, has already made a strong early impact by guiding the Black Starlets to qualification for the 2026 CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for April.
His permanent appointment reflects a strategic shift toward stability, structure and sustained growth at the youth level.
Expressing gratitude for the confidence reposed in him, Dr. Ogum stressed that the vision extends beyond immediate tournament success.
“I am grateful to the Ghana Football Association for the trust and stability this contract provides. Our focus is clear: to build a technically sound, tactically disciplined and mentally strong team capable of competing at the highest level in Africa. We are not just preparing for a tournament; we are building a foundation for the future of Ghana football,” he said.
Beyond his coaching duties, Dr. Ogum also serves as the GFA’s Head of Education, a dual role that highlights his dedication to structured player development, technical excellence and sustainable growth pathways.
His track record further strengthens confidence in the project. He led Asante Kotoko SC to the Ghana Premier League title in 2022 and previously guided WAFA SC to a remarkable second-place league finish. His résumé also includes managerial spells with Ebusua Dwarfs and experience as assistant coach of the Black Galaxies, providing valuable national team insight.
With preparations already underway ahead of the continental showpiece, Dr. Ogum is focused on assembling a competitive, cohesive and battle-ready squad capable of reasserting Ghana’s stature in youth football.
The GFA has pledged full technical and logistical support for the Starlets project, reinforcing what many observers view as the beginning of a new era built on stability, vision and deliberate investment in the future of Ghana football.
