The Parliamentary Select Committee on Education has intensified its oversight of selected colleges of education following concerns raised in the Auditor-General’s reports for the 2024 and 2025 financial years.
The issue came to the fore when the Committee engaged the management of the affected colleges to review their operations and address concerns identified in the audit reports. Chairman of the Committee, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, expressed concern over procurement irregularities recorded at some institutions.
He urged college management to strictly adhere to established procurement procedures and strengthen accountability in the management and use of public resources.
A member of the Committee, Fred Kyei, also called on the colleges to establish comprehensive risk management policies to identify potential challenges early and minimise their impact on institutional operations.
The Committee further urged the institutions to prioritise regular in-service training for staff to strengthen professional capacity, improve management practices and enhance the quality of education.
The colleges appearing before the Committee include St. John Bosco’s College of Education, Gambaga College of Education, Dambai College of Education, Al-Faruq College of Education, OLA College of Education, Peki College of Education, St. Francis College of Education, E.P. College of Education, Amedzofe, Akrokeri College of Education, Wiawso College of Education, Nusrat Jahan Ahmadiyya College of Education, Sunyani Technical University and Dr Hilla Limann Technical University.
The Committee is expected to continue its engagements with the institutions as part of Parliament’s oversight responsibility and efforts to promote financial discipline, accountability and effective management of public educational institutions.
