ECG Lauds Residents Of Odumase Krobo

The Krobo District branch of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has commended residents of Odumase Krobo for their proactive efforts in preventing what they perceived as a potential threat to an ECG transformer within the community.

Detailing an incident that occurred on Wednesday, March 13th, 2024, Ing. Christopher Apawu, the District Manager for ECG Krobo District, recounted how third-party contractors, hired by ECG, were observed removing wire mesh from a transformer by concerned residents. The residents promptly intervened, suspecting the contractors of intending to damage the equipment, and alerted the authorities.

“The residents apprehended the contractors and handed them over to the Police, who subsequently informed the ECG District office about the situation,” explained Ing. Apawu. Following verification, it was confirmed that the contractors were indeed hired by ECG to replace wire mesh with block walls around the company’s installations.

Ing. Apawu praised the residents for their vigilance and commendable decision to involve law enforcement rather than resorting to vigilante actions. “ECG emphasizes the importance of collaboration with the public to safeguard our installations, which are often located in public areas,” he stated. He further expressed appreciation for the positive reception of the company’s educational initiatives within the community.

In response to the incident, ECG has instructed the third-party contractor to ensure that all workers carry contact information for District management, facilitating verification if similar situations arise in the future. Additionally, Ing. Apawu emphasized the importance of residents reporting any concerns to the Police rather than taking matters into their own hands.

The incident serves as a reminder of the critical role community vigilance plays in protecting public infrastructure. ECG reaffirms its commitment to engaging with communities and fostering partnerships to ensure the safety and integrity of its installations.
