Does the law work differently when it comes to NPP? – Sanja Nanja quizzes

Atebubu Amantin’s Member of Parliament, Sanja Nanja, questions the impartiality of the law concerning certain New Patriotic Party (NPP) members.

This arises from the Controller and Accountant General, Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, entering NPP’s parliamentary primaries.

Nanja emphasizes that as a public servant, Kwaning-Bosompem should uphold political neutrality, questioning the need for him to participate in politics.

Despite public pressure for Kwaning-Bosompem to resign, he asserts no legal breach.

South Dayi’s MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, files a lawsuit against Kwaning-Bosompem, seeking to bar him from the NPP primaries, claiming it’s unconstitutional for a civil servant to contest while holding office.

“A declaration that the Defendant is a civil servant and therefore cannot contest in the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primaries while holding office as the Controller and Accountant General.”

“A declaration that the Defendant as a civil servant can only contest in a political party’s parliamentary primaries if that civil servant has resigned from his position as a civil servant.”

Dafeamekpor also seeks an injunction against Kwaning-Bosompem’s dual role.
