Djamel Belmadi Resigns After Algeria’s elimination in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations

The national team coach of the Desert Warriors of Algeria Djamel Belmadi has resigned with immediate effect.

Djamel Belmadi’s team failed to record a single win in the group stage and finished at the bottom in Group D, drawing their first two games against Angola and Burkina Faso before losing to Mauritania giving them their 1St AFCON win.

The results are a replica of their performance in the 2021 AFCON tournament which was held in Cameroon.

After leading the Algerian National team to win the 2019 Nations tournament in Egypt, the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is yet to lead the team to lead his team to win a single game in two consecutive Afcon tournaments.

Djamel Belmadi communicated to his players he had quit after Algeria was beaten by a goal to nil by Mauritania in Bouake in the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

He is yet to officially communicate to the Algerian Football Association.Beadi is the second coach to resign after Gambia’s Tom Saintfiet.

The 47-year-old French-born won 43 games, drew 18, and lost only 6 times in his managerial career as an Algerian coach.
