AFCON 2023: CAF Overturns Walid Regragui’s Suspension

The appeals committee of the Confederation of African Football has overturned the suspension of the Moroccan National team coach Walid Regragui.

Regragui was given a four-match touchline ban and a $5000 fine. The sanction came as a result of a post-match occurrence following Morocco’s 1 – 1 draw with Dr. Congo in their second game in Group F. He had an on-field spat with DR Congo’s captain Chancel Mbemba at the end of the game in San Pedro.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation appealed on the sanctions and now the ban have been lifted.

The coach missed their final group game against Zambia which they won by a goal to nil courtesy of Hakim Ziyech strike.

Following the lift of the ban, Regragui will be available on the touchline for the rouns of 16 game against South Africa on Tuesday in the on-going African cup of nations in Ivory Coast.

Walid Regragui is the coach who led Morocco in making history at the Qatar 2022 World Cup as the first African nation to get to the semi-finals of the Mundial.
