Ghana’s Black Queens forward Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah has expressed confidence in her team’s ability to compete with European champions England, saying “We believe in our qualities and we’re not scared.”
At Monday’s pre-match press briefing, Boye-Hlorkah emphasized the squad’s identity and unity, stating, “We can respect the opponent, but at the same time, we need to be ourselves. We are the Black Queens, and we need to do our thing.”
The former Everton and London City Lionesses attacker described the team’s mood as excited and believing, rather than intimidated. “We’re excited to play this game. We believe in our own qualities… We back ourselves.”
Boye-Hlorkah highlighted the squad’s strength in its footballing identity and collective spirit, saying, “We enjoy the football that we play. And we know that when we play our football, we can be a force against any team, any country we come up against.”
The Black Queens face England at St. Mary’s Stadium in Southampton today, with kickoff set for 19:00 GMT.
