Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has called on the World Bank and other development partners to place greater emphasis on knowledge sharing and technical expertise in their partnerships with Ghana.
Mr Ayariga said development cooperation should go beyond financial assistance and include the exchange of ideas, technical knowledge and practical solutions capable of helping Ghana address its development challenges.
Speaking to the media, the Minister said the government values its partnerships with international development institutions and other stakeholders and wants such engagements to deliver lasting benefits to the country.
According to him, Ghana needs partnerships that create opportunities for policymakers, local authorities and technical experts to share knowledge and learn from experiences that can improve the design and implementation of development programmes.
He stressed the importance of establishing a structured framework that promotes the exchange of ideas, technical skills and practical solutions between Ghana and its development partners.
Mr Ayariga said stronger knowledge-sharing arrangements would help build local capacity and enable Ghanaian institutions to benefit from expertise and experiences gained from development initiatives in other jurisdictions.
He noted that financial resources remain important to development, but sustainable progress also depends on the capacity of institutions and professionals to effectively apply knowledge and technical expertise.
The Minister therefore encouraged the World Bank and other development partners to deepen collaboration with Ghanaian institutions through technical exchanges, capacity-building programmes and knowledge-transfer initiatives.
He said such an approach would strengthen development cooperation and help ensure that programmes supported by international partners translate into sustainable outcomes.
Mr Ayariga maintained that a stronger focus on knowledge sharing would enable Ghana to derive greater long-term value from its engagements with the World Bank and other development partners while strengthening the country’s capacity to address its own development priorities.
