Gold Fields Ghana Limited has donated nine transformers valued at GH¢1.1 million to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to help address persistent low-voltage challenges affecting communities within the Tarkwa Nsuaem and Prestea Huni Valley municipalities.
The transformers are expected to improve the capacity, reliability and quality of electricity supply in communities that have been experiencing inadequate voltage levels, affecting households, businesses and other activities.
The donation forms part of Gold Fields Ghana Limited’s efforts to support the provision of reliable electricity to communities within its operational areas and contribute to improved living conditions for residents.
Speaking to the media during the handover ceremony in Tarkwa, Managing Director of Gold Fields Ghana, Elliot Twum, said the company remained committed to supporting development initiatives that respond to the needs of its host communities.
He said the intervention was intended to help address persistent power supply challenges and provide relief to residents and businesses that have been affected by low voltage.
According to Mr Twum, reliable electricity remains essential to the growth of local businesses, improvement in household activities and the overall development of communities.
He said Gold Fields would continue to collaborate with relevant institutions to support initiatives that contribute to sustainable development in its operational areas.
The Tarkwa ECG Director, Ing. Benjamin Thompson, expressed appreciation to Gold Fields Ghana Limited for the support, saying the nine transformers would help strengthen electricity distribution in the affected communities.
He said the additional infrastructure would improve the capacity of ECG’s network and help address some of the low-voltage challenges experienced by consumers.
Ing. Thompson said the support would complement ECG’s efforts to improve the reliability and quality of power supply to customers within the Tarkwa Nsuaem and Prestea Huni Valley municipalities.
The donation is therefore expected to provide much-needed support to ECG’s distribution network while improving electricity supply for households, businesses and other users in the beneficiary communities.
