TEMA, Ghana, 28 March: The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has cautioned that Ghanaian workers risk facing renewed hardship if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) returns to power.
According to him, the experience of workers under the previous NPP administration was marked by significant challenges, and there is no guarantee of improvement should the party regain power.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu programme on Saturday, March 28, Koomson urged Ghanaians not to be swayed by what he described as deceptive political narratives.
He cited what he described as anti-worker policies introduced by the NPP while in power, including the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), frozen bonds, and the collapse of private banks, which led to massive job losses.
He urged workers to remember these experiences and pray that the NPP does not return to power again.
“Workers suffered under the NPP, and they will suffer again if Ghanaians buy into their promises and return them to power,” he warned.
He further called on labour union leaders to remain focused and avoid being influenced by partisan politics, stressing the need to prioritise the welfare of workers above political interests.
Abraham Koomson also expressed concern over what he described as a sudden shift in the posture of the NPP, cautioning that the party’s current approach should not be mistaken for genuine change.
“They cannot change overnight. Workers must be very careful,” he stated.
He concluded by urging workers and union leaders to stay vigilant and make decisions that will safeguard their livelihoods and long-term well-being.
