In a dramatic final match at the 13th African Games held in Cape Coast, Ghana’s Black Princesses emerged victorious, securing a gold medal for the nation after a hard-fought battle against Nigeria.
Despite Nigeria’s undefeated record and their early lead with a goal in the 24th minute by Edeh Njedeka, the Ghanaian team displayed resilience.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Black Princesses rallied in the second half, with Tracey Twum netting an equalizer in the 77th minute. As regulation time ended in a 1-1 draw, the stage was set for extra time.
In a tense overtime period, Ghana seized the opportunity, with Abdulai scoring the decisive goal in the 98th minute, securing a 2-1 victory over Nigeria. With this win, Ghana claimed the top spot on the podium, relegating Nigeria to second place.
