Legal Counsel of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata has called on the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to fix the country for the cannot be taken for granted.
He indicated that, he has seen and heard people who were fervent advocates of the President, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo now expressing their concern in relation to corruption issues in this government.
According to him, the govt should recognize that the citizenry is aware of the expensive lifestyle of the gov’t and its appointees who before, entering into govt were poor.
Speaking in an interview monitored by @Ahotoronline.com, the Ghanaian academic and lawyer said, the setting up of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) was a demonstration of the commitment to fight corruption and a Prosecutor who was being appointed was seen as a citizen vigilante who will address issues.
Lawyer Tsikata asked what prompted the first appointee to the OSP to describe the President as the “mother serpent of corruption”.
He was disappointed on how the current administration forcefully removed the former Auditor General, Yao Domelevo from office which drew more attention to the government’s failure of fighting corruption.
“When an Auditor General who is supposed to be an independent public servant with a major responsibility for addressing issues of corruption in the public sector, when he gets hunted down in the way that they did, I don’t think the signal that was sent out was good”, he added.
