Asamoah Gyan revealed his greatest regret during his days at black stars . 

The former captain of the black stars , Asamoah Gyan has revealed his greatest regret during his playing days as a player for the national team .

In an interview, Asamoah Gyan expressed that he had an opportunity to sign for Manchester City although he was nursing an injury which he was advised medically to forgo the 2008 Afcon but he sacrificed to play. 

“I can’t really recalled having regrets in playing black stars but i think 2008, i regretted because i was supposed to sign for man city but had some injury concerns that I had to deal with”, he added.  

“My manager told me to forget about African Cup and go for treatment, when am fully fit then I sign for Manchester City I felt like 2006 was supposed to be my first  AFCON but I missed it because of an injury so I was flown from camp to overseas.  In that tournament,  Ghana was eliminated in the group stage.”

“In 2008, when Ghana hosted and that was my first African Cup, I felt that it was our own so I needed to get involved which is an opportunity for me to showcase my talent in the African Cup, so that’s why I took such a risk to come.”

“I had to be injected so many times just to relieve the pain so I can play but at a point in time, the way people were criticizing me harshly, everybody can criticize but go deep to the extent of hitting on my mum, its hurt and still hurts me. I regretted because of three sacrifices made to represent Ghana for that tournament and people didn’t appreciate it”, he concluded. 

Gyan is the all-time leading goalscorer of the Ghana national team, with 51 goals. 

He represented Ghana at the 2006,2010, and 2014 FifaWorlddCupsp With 6 goals, he is the top African goalscorer in the history of the World Cup.

Gyan has also represented Ghana at the 2004 Summer Olympics and in seven African Cup of Nations in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, and  2019, helping them finish in third place in 2008 and runner-up in 2010 and 2015.
