(LISTEN): School Feeding Program: Can 97 pesewas reduce hunger? – Educationist questions
Chief Executive Officer of Monarch Education Hub and an Educationist David Akpalu has called for the increment of the 97 pesewas feeding amount per child in the School feeding program.
Mr. Akpalu added that whereas the food amount is inadequate caterers are not being treated fairly.
Speaking on Ahotor 92.3 Fm‘s morning show ‘Ade Kyi Mu Nsem‘ with Nana Dogbe, the Educationist argued that 97 pesewas per child is inadequate for the caterers tp cook any good food for the children.
“The main objective behind the school feeding program is to enhance food security and reduce hunger, my question I want to ask is, can 97 pesewas reduce hunger?” he asked.
Reacting to a video that was showing the Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah kicking out some School Feeding Caterers who was heard in the video wanting the 97 pesewas increased, Mr. Akpalu said ” I have watched the video circulating on social media, upon seeing the video, I was very sad because the caterers was just there to demand payment”.
Caterers under the School Feeding Programme disclosed that the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah shut them out of his office and rejected their petition when they went to picket at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council in the early hours of Monday, April 3.
According to the caterers, the decision to picket at the premises of the Ashanti Regional Minister’s office is a result of government’s failure to pay arrears owed them for several terms.
The group also called on government to as a matter of urgency increase the feeding fee per child from 97 pesewas to GH¢3.00.
