Atlético Madrid have successfully secured the signing of Nigerian international forward Ademola Lookman from Serie A side Atalanta, it’s confirmed.

The 28-year-old London-born attacker has put pen to paper on a long-term contract that will keep him at the Wanda Metropolitano until June 30, 2030, marking a significant reinforcement for Diego Simeone’s squad during the winter transfer window.
The deal sees Atlético paying an initial fixed fee of €35 million to Atalanta, with an additional €5 million potentially achievable through performance-related add-ons and bonuses, bringing the total package close to €40 million.
Lookman, who had been a standout performer in Bergamo since joining in the summer of 2022, arrives in Spain after an impressive spell that included scoring over 40 goals across various competitions and famously netting a hat-trick in Atalanta’s triumphant 2024 Europa League final victory.
Known for his versatility, dynamic style, and right-footed flair, the former Everton, RB Leipzig, Fulham, and Leicester City player can operate effectively as a second striker or on either wing, where his pace, dribbling, and ability to cut inside make him a constant threat.
His arrival is viewed as a strategic move by Atlético, who currently sit third in La Liga and are looking to close the gap on leaders Barcelona while strengthening their attacking options with a player who brings both experience and proven goal-scoring pedigree at the highest level.
Lookman, a Nigeria Super Eagles star and former African Footballer of the Year, had attracted interest from other clubs including Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, but ultimately opted for the challenge of La Liga and Simeone’s intense, competitive environment over more lucrative proposals elsewhere.
He was already in Madrid to complete his medical and finalize the paperwork, with the club officially welcoming him shortly after the agreement was confirmed.
This move represents one of the standout pieces of business on transfer deadline day and is expected to add significant quality and depth to Atlético’s frontline as they push for domestic and European success in the seasons ahead. Welcome to Atlético, Ademola Lookman!
