Shasha Marley, a talented Reggae artist from Ghana, has shared that his song ‘Maata’ brought both memorable experiences and unexpected challenges into his life.
Speaking with Obaapa Janee on Accra-based Ahotor FM‘s mid-morning show on Friday, March 8, 2024, he said he was constantly humiliated by some Ghanaians who did not understand the lyrics of the song, despite his efforts to explain them.
”I faced humiliation from some Ghanaians who misunderstood the words of the song, causing me and my mother distress.”
On the other hand, the song also brought him multiple awards and helped him reach new heights in his career by touring different countries such as Australia and Brazil.
“I had the opportunity to attend the Coral Awards ceremony in Benin, where I was honored with the award for the Best Africa Reggae artist. This achievement marked a significant milestone in my career. I also had the privilege of going to Burkina Faso later on for another award ceremony.”
”In 2007, I had the opportunity to tour Australia for a month, performing in three different states with the Maata Family and promoting our album, Lost and Found. Additionally, I was fortunate enough to travel to Brazil and play 25 shows during a month-long tour.”
Despite the criticisms, his music has been well-received in countries like Kenya, Mongolia and Brazil.
