Court remands two for possessing ammunition

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded two persons for possession of arms and ammunition without authority and abetment of crime.

They are Imoro Abdul Wahab, scrap dealer and Kwaku Amankwah, Arms and Ammunition dealer.

They pleaded not guilty and will reappear on May 5.

Prosecuting, Superintendent of Police Kwaku Brempeh told the court that the complainant in the case were Police personnel of the Formed Police Unit (FPU).

He said the accused persons Imoro and Kwaku are residents at Old Fadama and Akweteyman respectively.

He said on April 18, whilst complainants including Military Personnel and personnel of other security agencies were on duty at Agbogbloshie market and its environs, they had a tip off that, Imoro was conveying 500 pieces of AA and BB Cartridges concealed in a box to the Dagomba Lorry Station to be transported to Tamale.

He said on receipt of the information, Imoro was arrested together with said quantity of ammunitions.

On his arrest, he led police to the shop of Kwaku, who is a licensed Arms and Ammunition dealer at Arena in Accra as the one, who supplied the ammunition to him.

On the arrest of Kwaku admitted having sold the ammunitions to Imoro but however, failed to follow due process by ensuring that Imoro was permitted to possess the ammunitions.

He said Kwaku also failed to issue a receipt nor recorded particulars of the sale.

After investigation, the accused persons were charged with the offences and arraigned.
