Accra, Ghana, 10 December: President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday met with the National Peace Council to discuss his vision for sustaining peace and stability across the country.
Welcoming the delegation, the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, congratulated President Mahama on his election victory and assured him of the Council’s commitment to supporting national cohesion.
He also outlined some key legacy projects the Council plans to undertake, including the construction of a dedicated National Peace Council headquarters, to be known as the Peace House.

Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, noted that his ministry has been working diligently to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Peace Council so it can effectively fulfill its mandate. He emphasized the importance of adequately positioning the Council to intervene in matters that threaten national peace.

President Mahama, in his remarks, underscored the need for the Peace Council to be fully resourced and empowered. He said this will enable the Council to play a stronger, more proactive role in mediating chieftaincy disputes and other conflicts that sometimes escalate into violence.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering with the Peace Council to promote unity, dialogue, and long-lasting peace across all regions of Ghana.
