The Minority Chief Whip, Governs Agbodza has hit back at the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Ernest Addison over his comments not to resign from his post despite several calls from opposition parties.
In an interview with international business news website, Central Banking, Addison said he is not stepping down, describing the protest by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as “completely unnecessary.”
“The Minority [MPs] in Parliament have many channels to channel their grievances in civilised societies, not through demonstrations in the streets as hooligans,” Addison added in reference to the #OccupyBoGProtest.
But reacting to this, the MP for the Adaklu constituency said he believed the Governor of the central bank was being shielded hence his remarks.
He warned that Dr Addison would soon be made to face the full rigours of the law.
“He’s a protected arrogant thief. His day to face justice will surely come,” Agbodza warned.
The Minority held a protest on Tuesday to demand the resignation of the BoG Governor and his deputies following loses incurred by the apex bank as well as an ongoing head office complex.
Leaders of the protest refused to hand over their petition to the head of security at the BoG instead of the Governor or his deputies. They have decided to continue protesting until Dr. Addison and his deputies resign.
2024 polls will be scary if you touch Dampare – Prophet Oduro to Parliament
Founder and leader of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Kofi Oduro, have warned Parliament against the possible removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
Prophet Oduro emphasized that any move to oust the IGP from office would be a grave mistake, possibly affecting the integrity of the 2024 polls.
In a recent sermon, he cautioned against Parliament recommending the removal or taking any adverse action against Dampare.
“Now let me use this opportunity to tell the inquiry and the Parliament of Ghana, don’t make a mistake to remove Doctor (IGP) or make a recommendation to the president of Ghana to remove Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
“That will be your worst mistake ever…you know when President Mahama was the president and when he removed those three boys from prison. When he pardoned them, I said this would cost the president his election and it did.
“I am telling the president of Ghana if Parliament should make a recommendation because we are gravitating towards the point that Akuffo Dampare should be replaced as Inspector General of Police. You would have tinted the integrity, veracity, and authenticity of the next election,” he said.
Dr. George Akuffo Dampare recently appeared before a parliamentary committee probing an alleged leaked audio involving an ouster plot by some top police officers and former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Bugri Naabu.
The audio outlines a backdoor plot to remove Dampare from his position and contained several allegations against him.
