Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the Former Sports Minister, expressed his dissatisfaction with the state of the Ghanaian local league.
He shared an experience where he questioned whether the teams he was watching were of juvenile or Division 3 level. He criticized the teams for lacking the necessary qualities to be considered premier league teams and stated that the players were below the required standard.
” They are nowhere near premier league teams, quality very poor, the player’s sub-standard, we must do something about our local league”. he said.
Nii also cautioned that if we continue to permit every player to leave, they risk the league by making it seem to be below the satisfactory standard since they lack good and quality players.
He stated, “If we continue to let every player leave, we may not have good quality players in our league, and our league will be substandard”.
Nii believes that there is a need for action to improve the local league, as allowing every player to leave would result in a lack of quality players and a substandard league.
He also attributed the dominance of leagues in Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Zambia to the significant differences in their administrative affairs and activities as compared to Ghana’s.
