Fire has been a good servant to humans for a long time. It uses includes; cooking, generating of heat and light, smelting, forging, incineration of waste and clearing of agricultural lands.
The Ghana National Fire Service is an agency under the Ministry of the Interior, constituting Ghana’s nationwide fire service.
Fire incidents have become a regular occurrence in Ghana. This situation bring about loss of lives and properties and causes fear and panic among others.
As part of the efforts to celebrate lost souls the Ghana National Fire Service dedicated this year’s 60th Anniversary launch to all fire fighters who died saving others and themed this celebration “Recognizing the sacrifices of the firefighters and our fallen heroes”. Over the years, fire fighters have sacrificed their lives to save others, lives are lost for a good cause.
According to the Chief Fire Officer, CFO Julius Kuunuor Aalebkure, fire fighting comes with a lot of risk.
The recent tragedy which was not made known to the general public was the death of an energetic officer Recruit Fireman RFM Ebenezer Boakye and 6 other officers who lost their lives through a motor accident on their way to Obuasi on an emergency assignment on 6th June, 2022.
He also stated in his address that, with the help of the support of the Interior Minister, the Government is in the process of procuring the Ghana National Fire Service Council with various fire buses, rapid intervention vehicles, fire fighting bikes and so on which would help solve accessibility challenges a fire fighter faces.
In an interview with the Assistant Chief Fire Officer in charge of public Relation, PRO. Timothy Osafo Affum he pointed out that they are not perturbed about whether Ghanaian’s are been helpful or not, they just want Ghanaian’s to embrace the fire education which has been introduced. The help of Ghanaian’s are not up to standards, some communities are helpful but some are adamant. The Ghana National Fire Service wants everyone to embrace the public fire education which has been introduced. With the acceptance of this education, it will help reduce fire outbreaks and make fire fighting easier.
The officers who died in a line of duty tragedly would forever be remembered and their good works will remain noticed.
The Ghana National Fire Service urges all Ghanaians to embrace the fire safety education to make Ghana safe and resilient.
