The Accra Regional Police Command has begun investigations into a robbery syndicate involving two security officers.
The command on Thursday arrested a Policeman and a military officer together with their civilian accomplice at Weija in connection with a robbery incident.According to the police, the three at the time of their arrest were on remand for similar offences.
“We are going to investigate the case. They are on bail. They appeared before the court and it granted them bail on the same robbery case.”
Meanwhile, the police administration says it is taking steps to minimize the increasing spate of police personnel involved in robbery cases.
Speaking to Citi News, the acting Accra Regional Commander, DCOP Kweku Boadu Pepra said investigations had revealed that the two were in court for a similar offence.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that both the policeman and the solider are in court for a similar charge and they are not in active service and for now facing quasi-judicial enquiry in their various institutions.”
Speaking to Citi News, the Director-General of Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service ACP David Eklu encouraged the public to report such incidents immediately.
Three men were arrested at Weija in connection with robbery activities in Accra.
The suspects, who were picked up around 11:30 am on Thursday included a soldier, a police officer and a civilian.
The civilian has been identified as Krosby Ofory Danso, the soldier; Corporal Bernard Tsagli and the police officer; Lance Corporal Asamoah.
Police noted that the soldier and police officer are not in active service and are currently on bail “facing similar charges” for a different robbery.
The security personnel are also facing “quasi-judicial enquiries in their various institutions,” the Acting Accra Regional Commander, DCOP Kweku Boadu Pepra said to the media.
At the Accra Regional Police Command, Citi News’ Kojo Agyeman reported that “the police describe them as criminals who have been operating or running a robbery syndicate over a number of years.”
