Baba Rahman Set for Black Stars Return Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

Ghana defender Abdul Rahman Baba is on the verge of a return to the Black Stars after being contacted by newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Sources close to the situation indicate that Queiroz has reached out to the experienced left-back as part of plans to reinforce his squad, with the coach seeking an early commitment as he navigates a limited preparation window.

Rahman has been absent from the national team since September 2023, when he featured in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Stadium. He subsequently stepped away from international duty to focus on recovery and rebuilding his fitness at club level with PAOK FC.

The 31-year-old also withdrew from Ghana’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, prioritising his physical condition following a series of injury setbacks—a decision that came in the wake of criticism after his last international appearance.

Despite his absence, Rahman remains one of Ghana’s most experienced options at left-back, having earned 52 caps and scored two goals between 2014 and 2023. He was also part of Ghana’s squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, marking his most recent appearance at a major international tournament.

The Black Stars are preparing for their fifth World Cup appearance and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, Croatia, and England.

As preparations intensify, Queiroz continues to shape a competitive squad, with Rahman’s potential return offering valuable experience and depth—should he accept the call-up and fight for his place in the team.
