The Minister for Energy, Boakye Agyarko has revealed that the long challenge turret barring the Kwame Nkrumah FPSO will be fixed by 2019.
The 2016 Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) report indicated that the hold in oil production for repair works to be carried on the turret accounted for the sharp decline in oil revenue.
The Energy Minister has already indicated that the Kwame Nkrumah FPSO will be shut down twice next year for further repair on the turret but the Minister said there is a plan in place to entirely fixed the faulty turret of the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah by 2019 avoid intermittent shut down of oil production from the Jubilee field.
According to him, ”The barring of the turret alone is 21 metres wide so we have to repair it in stages. The first stage will be stabilising the barring so that it doesn’t kill the vessel over. The final stage is to have the permanent spread mooring with the rotation of the vessel and that will be in 2019.” He stated.
