TEMA, Ghana, 11 April: Abraham Koomson, Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour(GFL), has called on government to establish special tribunals to fast-track cases linked to the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative.
According to him, the pace of investigations and prosecutions involving individuals cited in the ORAL process is too slow and risks undermining public confidence in the fight against corruption.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu show on Saturday, April 11, Abraham Koomson argued that the Constitution provides for the establishment of tribunals and urged authorities to activate this mechanism to expedite the recovery of alleged misappropriated state funds.
“The legal framework already exists. What is needed now is the political will to operationalize tribunals to ensure swift justice,” he said.
Abraham Koomson also cautioned the government against being distracted by political pressure from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), warning that losing focus could have serious political consequences. He maintained that allowing due process to take its course while ensuring efficiency would strengthen accountability.
He further criticized the government’s decision to suspend selected fuel-related taxes, describing it as a concession to opposition pressure. According to him, such measures could strain public finances and affect the state’s ability to meet key obligations.
Abraham Koomson noted that several individuals associated with the NPP have reportedly been mentioned in ORAL-related matters, and stressed that the most effective approach is to allow the law to take its course. However, he insisted that where delays persist, tribunals should be established to accelerate proceedings.
He concluded that swift and transparent handling of ORAL cases is essential to restoring public trust and safeguarding national resources.
