G.P.R.T.U PRAISES NASACA

The nation’s largest transport union, Ghana Private Road Transport Union(GPRTU) has praised the safety advocacy group, National Safety Campaign(NASACA) for its swift action in promoting road safety.

The safety think tank was at G.P.R.T.U’s Accra based head office to introduce its flagship campaign program for year 2026 termed “Say NO to 8 road deaths a day”

Head of Public Relations at GPRTU, Alhaji Abbas Ibrahim Moro in a welcoming speech noted how necessary it for all to join hands for safety on the road. He therefore pledged his outfit’s support for NASACA and called on individuals and corporate entities alike to team up with the “don’t wait till it occurs” outfit to go places with the result oriented “Say NO to 8 road deaths a day”

The two sides lengthily discussed disregard for road traffic regulations and the deadly results thereof. They also said of a need for wider and continuous engagement where all citizens would be involved in realizing absolute safety on the road.

For the second time, Ghana recorded around eight(8) road deaths a day per the ratios in the year 2025. The first one happens to be in 2021, when the National Safety Campaign did a research during the first quarter and warned “Ghana risk losing 8 souls to road crashes, if…”

It late conducted yet another research which said “only 13% of traffic lights in Accra are functional”

In related operations, it petitioned the transport ministry to “limit speed limits to limit road crashes”.
It had earlier asked the very ministry to “clear the highways of tollbooth debris”

To make Say NO to 8 road deaths a year gain firm grounds, the principal safety advocate, Daniel Asuku in an open letter to The President, John Dramani Mahama, pleaded with him to add his voice in saying life and property on the road.

It is worthy of note that these skyrocketing number of death are mostly reported and reported ones excluding the thousands of injury, deaths-after-incident and damage to property.
