Medeama Set CAF Champions League Title as Objective — Ibrahim Tanko

Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko says the club’s ultimate objective is to win the CAF Champions League after securing qualification for Africa’s premier club competition.

The Yellow and Mauve earned their place in the Champions League after being crowned champions of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.

Medeama have been handed a challenging first-round preliminary tie against DR Congo giants TP Mazembe, a club with vast experience and a strong pedigree in African football.

Despite the difficult draw, Tanko insists Medeama are not entering the competition merely to participate but with ambitions of going all the way.

“We are going there as one of the teams to compete, and so winning the CAF Champions League is our objective,” the former Black Stars assistant coach told Asempa FM.

Medeama will begin their continental campaign at home when they host Mazembe in the first leg at the TNA Park on September 5.

The return leg is scheduled to take place in DR Congo on September 13, with both matches set to kick off at 15:00 GMT.

Having conquered the domestic scene, Medeama will now turn their attention to Africa as they seek to build on their Ghana Premier League triumph and establish themselves among the continent’s elite clubs.

However, Tanko’s side face a stern opening test against an experienced Mazembe outfit. The Ghanaian champions will be counting on home advantage in the first leg as they look to gain a positive result before travelling to DR Congo for the decisive return encounter.

For Medeama, the challenge is clear: turn their domestic success into continental glory and mount a serious challenge for the CAF Champions League crown.
