“I will review conditions of members of not only the lower courts but the bench in general. I will ensure that processes in relation to promotion are workable so that no one is overlooked “, she revealed. The 67-year old Justice Sophia Akuffo is expected to succeed the retired Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Wood who retired on June 10, 2017 and has been appointed as a member of the Council of State.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in accordance with Article 144 (1) of the 1992 Constitution nominated her for the post pending her vetting and subsequent confirmation by parliament’s appointments committee.
She has since promised to also ensure the country’s courts have quality Judges to deliver quality Justice indicating that it is one of her hallmarks and vision for members of the bench.
“I am interested in effective quality justice because it covers the assurance that the public has that when they come to the hall of justice they will receive or access justice. There is still a lot of work to do that is one of the continuous areas I am willing to work on” she stated
