Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency, assuring Ghanaians that the budget for the Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be made public ahead of the tournament.
Ghana is preparing for its fifth appearance at the global showpiece, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico this summer.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, the Buem Constituency Member of Parliament stressed that the same openness applied during the World Cup qualifiers will extend to the tournament itself.
Adams previously disclosed the cost of each qualifying match, a move that drew mixed reactions from sections of the football fraternity.
“We will make the World Cup budget public; nothing will be hidden,” he stated.
“The government does not intend to profit from the Black Stars. This is about giving Ghana what it truly deserves.”
The Sports Minister also revealed that support for the team off the pitch will depend largely on resources mobilised through the Sports Fund. According to him, the amount raised will determine how many Ghanaian supporters can be flown to North America to cheer the team during the tournament.
“The funds we will raise will determine the number of fans we take to the World Cup,” Adams explained.
The Black Stars have been drawn into Group L and will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto. They will then face England in Boston before concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
