We need a Pan-African Military agreement- Samia Nkrumah

The former Chairperson of the Conventions People’s Party (CPP) and daughter of Ghana’s first president, Samia Yaba Nkrumah has stated on her facebook post that Ghana should come up with a Pan-African Military agreement. A continental military High Command and a unified defence strategy representing over one billion people in Africa.

President, Akufo-Addo on Thursday delivered a live telecast speech at the Jubilee House about the Ghana- US military cooperation agreement which has generated widespread condemnations and mixed reactions within the public domain.

He gave a self explanatory delivery on the entire contractual modalities of the much debatable US military establishment in Ghana, and refuted claims that the United States of America would be staging a military base in the country.

The President didn’t minced words as he trolled his fiercely political opponents of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for causing fear and furor about the whole terms of reference in the said agreement which gained parliamentary approval.

Samia Yaba Nkrumah that the military deals signed by the country cut across different ruling parties, which only go to show that they have the blessing of the political, while the majority of Ghanaians cannot participate in decision-making on matters of national security.

Below is the statement by Samia Nkrumah,

A PAN-AFRICAN ARMY NOT A MILITARY PACT WITH THE US. We need an alternative to political parties in Ghana.

Unimpeded access of American or foreign military personnel in Ghana and use of agreed upon facilities in our country is in effect a military base. Ghana’s 1998, 2015, and 2018 military pacts with the USA endanger the security of Ghanaians.

Those military deals cut across different ruling parties, which only go to show that they have the blessing of the political elite in Ghana, while the majority of Ghanaians cannot participate in decision-making on matters of national security.

We are at best informed about what is going on and at worst kept in the dark. We continue to be governed by two parties that share the same vision as far as foreign policy is concerned.

We need an alternative to political parties in Ghana. Every Ghanaian must shed their partisan colour and say no to this agreement.

The only military agreement we wish to see is a Pan-African one: A continental military High Command and a unified defence strategy representing over one billion people in the African Nation that must be.
