The Black Sticks will travel to Nigeria for the competition which begins on Friday. The tournament is the first to be hosted by the Nigerian Amputee Football Federation supported by the Niger State Governor, Alhaji Bello.

Suleiman Isah, the NAFF president, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Minna that the three-day tournament has been slated to hold in June.

Isah said: “In order to promote amputee football, we have finalised arrangements to organise the Governor Abubakar Bello amputee football competition in Minna.

“The competition, being the maiden edition, will bring together athletes from the six geo-political zones of the country, as well as from the national team, the Special Eagles.”

The NAFF president said the competition would further develop the game and strengthen the players for both national and international competitions.

Isah said the Niger state government would donate crutches and jerseys to the participating teams at the end of the competition.
