Champions League football lured Malik Akowuah to Hearts

New Hearts midfielder, Malik Akowuah believes his desire to play in the Champions League was the main reason for him joining the capital club.

The skillful midfielder penned a three-year deal as he crossed carpets from Tarkwa in a move which was without drama.

The midfielder has featured in a preseason friendly for the side but is yet to play in the GHALCA G6 with the club but he is hoping to feature for the club in the not distant future and more importantly, in the Champions League.

“I want to play in the CAF Champions League with Hearts of Oak and that was one of the main reason why I joined the Club,” he told Asempa FM.

“I have played in the Confederations Cup with Medeama and I want to play in the Champions League with Hearts, Hearts have been there before and I know they will make it again.

“I heard Aduana Stars accusing me when I joined Hearts of Oak but the truth is I was then having contract with Medeama in the first round of the league.

“They called me and informed me they will need my services at the club at the end of the season but we did the agreement behind closed doors so they were giving me transportation and paying my hotel bills but I was very surprised when they were accusing me of not signing for them because they knew I was having a contract with Medeama SC while they were doing all these things,” he added.
