You Work With People You Can Trust; Purge the System – Abraham Koomson Advises NDC Government

TEMA, Ghana, 5th November: The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has urged the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to review the personnel occupying sensitive positions in government institutions, insisting that the administration must work with people it can trust.

He has expressed concern that the NDC government continues to retain individuals appointed under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration in strategic positions, warning that some of them could undermine the government’s efforts.

According to him, some of the controversies and scandals being levelled against the current administration could be orchestrated by individuals who remain in sensitive positions despite the change in government.

Citing the recent interdiction of an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration over allegations of improper processing and handling of official travel documents, Mr Koomson claimed that the officer was recruited in November 2024 under the previous NPP administration.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem programme on Thursday, November 5, Mr Koomson said it is troubling that the NDC continued to retain individuals he believes could be working against the government’s interests.

He argued that if the government was unwilling to dismiss such individuals, it should consider transferring them from sensitive positions to other departments where they would have less influence over critical government operations.

“That is why it pains me that the NDC continues to maintain these people in very sensitive positions. If you don’t want to sack them, transfer them somewhere else. When you take office, make sure you purge the system and get your own trusted people who will help you succeed.

“You don’t have to work with people you don’t trust. Even Christ himself walked with disciples he could trust. I don’t think you have to work with people you don’t trust,” he said.

Mr Koomson further alleged that the NPP had maintained significant influence within certain government institutions, particularly in positions considered critical to the administration’s operations.

He cautioned that some individuals could deliberately frustrate the NDC government’s agenda in an attempt to pave the way for the NPP’s return to power, arguing that the government must be vigilant against actions that could undermine its performance.

He therefore called on the Mahama administration to undertake a thorough review of personnel in sensitive government positions to safeguard its policies and ensure effective governance.
