Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has expressed strong confidence in the Black Stars’ readiness for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the team is fully prepared for its opening Group L encounter against Panama.
The Leicester City star is expected to play a key role in Ghana’s campaign as he gears up for his second World Cup appearance. Issahaku was part of the Black Stars squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where he gained valuable experience as a teenager.
Speaking to the Ghana Football Association’s media team, the 21-year-old described his excitement at representing Ghana on football’s biggest stage once again.
“I feel amazing because it’s always a dream come true to be part of a World Cup team. I’m privileged to be part of this team, and this is my second time. The first time was about experience and I learnt a lot. Now I’m going to put in everything to help the team get to a better position,” he said.
Issahaku joined the Black Stars’ early preparations in Cardiff and featured in Ghana’s 1-1 international friendly draw against Wales as the team fine-tuned its preparations for the tournament.
The forward revealed that the atmosphere within camp has been positive, with players fully focused on the task ahead.
“So far, so good. The energy in camp is great, and everyone is ready. Training is going well and we’re just getting ready. Personally, I’ve enjoyed the sessions. It’s positive—I can see the changes. We’re getting fit and getting ready for the game,” he added.
The Black Stars are scheduled to depart Rhode Island on Monday ahead of Wednesday’s crucial opening fixture against Panama, and Issahaku believes the squad is well-equipped to rise to the occasion.
“Looking at the team, I have so much confidence in the guys. Everyone is ready and the training we’re doing is helping. I think it’s going to make us fitter, improve us, and help the team move forward,” he continued.
With anticipation building among supporters back home, Issahaku has appealed to Ghanaians to continue backing the national team throughout the tournament.
“My message to Ghanaians is simple: keep the support and keep praying for us. We’ll be here working hard to make you proud,” he concluded.
Ghana will open its 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama on Wednesday as the Black Stars aim to make a strong start in their quest to progress beyond the group stage.
