World Cup 2026: Roger De Sa outlines biggest challenge in Ghana role ahead of global showdown

Assistant coach Roger De Sa has admitted that limited preparation time remains one of the biggest obstacles facing Ghana’s technical team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Working alongside Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, De Sa revealed that assembling a competitive squad for the tournament is a demanding process, particularly with players spread across different leagues worldwide.

Speaking to KickOff Magazine, the South African tactician explained that scouting and evaluating players has become a major focus in the lead-up to the tournament.

“I’ve been watching a lot of films, videos, watching different players with different clubs,” De Sa said.

According to De Sa, the biggest challenge is selecting the right squad within a short preparation window, with only about two weeks available to build chemistry and tactical understanding before the competition begins.

“The biggest challenge is obviously to select a team without really having enough time. And obviously, the preparations are also very short. You’ve got about two weeks to prepare your team.”

De Sa is expected to play an influential role on Queiroz’s technical bench during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, helping shape a squad capable of competing against elite opposition. With Ghanaian players based across Europe, Asia, and Africa, narrowing down the final roster while ensuring balance and cohesion presents a complex task.

The comments come as the Black Stars continue final preparations for the tournament, where Ghana have been drawn in a challenging Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

For De Sa and Queiroz, the coming weeks will be crucial as they finalize player selections, establish tactical plans, and prepare the Black Stars for football’s biggest stage.

Despite the time constraints, the coaching staff remain focused on building a disciplined and competitive team capable of making a strong impression across host nations United States, Canada, and Mexico.
