Asante Kotoko Director of Football Stanley Menzo has publicly praised the club’s decision to appoint South African coach Eric Tinkler as head coach in July 2026. Menzo described Tinkler as the best coach the club could have secured and highlighted his proven ability to build teams to a high standard.
Tinkler, aged 55, arrives with more than a decade of coaching experience in the South African Premier Soccer League. He has previously managed high-profile clubs including Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, SuperSport United, Maritzburg United and most recently Sekhukhune United.
During those spells he won multiple domestic cup competitions and guided sides to CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup finals. The move to Asante Kotoko marks his first coaching role outside South Africa.
The appointment forms part of a broader restructuring at the Kumasi-based club. Dutch football legend Stanley Menzo was installed as Director of Football in June 2026 to overhaul technical operations, player recruitment and long-term planning.
Asante Kotoko, who last won the Ghana Premier League in the 2021/22 season, have set clear targets for Tinkler: deliver the league title and restore the club to continental competition. Preparations for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign, scheduled to begin in early September, are already underway under the new technical leadership.
