With deep sorrow and profound grief, the Vice President of the Republic, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has extended her heartfelt condolences to the families of the six young Ghanaians who lost their lives in the tragic stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.
The heartbreaking incident occurred during the 2025/2026 Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise, where thousands of hopeful applicants had gathered in pursuit of a future of service and honor. What was meant to be a moment of opportunity turned into a national tragedy, leaving the entire nation mourning the loss of promising lives.
In a statement issued from her office, the Vice President expressed her deep pain over the incident, describing it as a “devastating blow to the nation’s collective spirit.” She said the young victims represented Ghana’s brightest hopes — youth ready to serve and defend their country.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang called for calm as authorities launch a full-scale investigation into the circumstances that led to the unfortunate stampede. She further urged relevant agencies to review safety protocols for future recruitment processes to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
“Our hearts bleed for the families and friends of the deceased. Their dreams have been cut short, but their desire to serve Ghana will never be forgotten,” the Vice President said.
