Speaker’s comment on OSP is disturbing – Former AG

Former Auditor General (AG), Daniel Yao Domelevo says he is very disturbed by the comment from the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Alban Sumana Bagbin on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

According to the Speaker, the OSP office is an exercise with futility, which means it is useless and we can not achieve anything from there when it comes to corruption fight.

Speaking on the matter, Mr. Domelevo said he did some research on the law after hearing the speaker’s message and what he found under section 4 and subsection 2 was very disturbing.

Mr. Domelevo indicated that the question that came into his mind after reading the above sections is how different is the OSP office from EOCO, CHRAJ, and the rest.

According to the former Auditor General, it’s really sad but he will also say that the effect of the OSP and other anti-corruption agencies may not result in prosecution and conviction as expected by Ghanaians but, the investigations will bring some relief to Ghanaians.

He gave some advice to the Special Prosecutor by saying if the OSP wants to implement the law, he should make sure to operate within the law.

“You cannot go outside the law and say you are using the same law,” he said.
