Senegalese Football Federation Accepts CAF Verdict in Full, Rules Out Appeal and Commits to Paying All Fines

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has officially announced its acceptance of the disciplinary verdict issued by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following the chaotic events in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final against Morocco.

FSG statement

In a formal statement, the FSF confirmed that it fully acknowledges the decision handed down by CAF’s Disciplinary Board. The federation has decided against pursuing any appeal of the sanctions, which include both sporting penalties such as suspensions for coach Pape Bouna Thiaw and players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaïla Sarr and substantial financial fines imposed on the FSF itself.

The FSF has explicitly stated that it will assume full and entire responsibility for covering all the financial penalties levied against it, totaling $615,000.
These fines break down as $300,000 for the improper conduct of supporters that brought the game into disrepute, another $300,000 for unsporting behavior by players and technical staff violating principles of fair play, loyalty, and integrity, and $15,000 related to team misconduct involving multiple cautions during the match.

By choosing not to challenge the ruling, the federation is signaling its commitment to respecting CAF’s regulations and moving forward constructively. This comes after initial indications from Senegalese officials suggesting a potential appeal, but the FSF has now opted for closure on the matter to focus on future priorities, including preparations for upcoming competitions like the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the next AFCON cycle.

The decision also reinforces that Senegal retains the 2025 AFCON title, as CAF rejected Morocco’s attempt to have the result overturned due to the on-field walk-off incident.
