Senegal Launches Immediate Appeal to CAS Over Stripped 2025 AFCON Title

The Senegalese Football Federation is actively exploring all available legal avenues in response to the recent invalidation of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

This development stems from the highly controversial circumstances surrounding the final against Morocco, where incidents—including the team’s temporary walk-off from the pitch during a disputed penalty situation— led CAF to ultimately strip Senegal of the championship they had initially won on the field.

In light of this ruling, which has seen the title effectively reassigned following appeals and reviews, Senegal’s authorities have confirmed they will lodge an immediate appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The move represents a formal challenge to CAF’s decision-making process and the sanctions imposed, with the Senegalese side arguing that the invalidation lacks sufficient justification or procedural fairness based on the events of the match.

This escalation to CAS, football’s highest independent arbitral body for such disputes, signals Senegal’s determination to contest the outcome vigorously and potentially seek reinstatement as champions or other remedies.

The situation continues to generate significant debate across African football, with ongoing reviews and counter-appeals (including prior ones from Morocco) having shaped the turbulent post-tournament landscape as of mid-March 2026.
