Security expert urges EC to amend its posture in the compilation of the voters register

Security Analyst and a lecturer at the University of Professional Studies Yaro Kasambata, is urging the Electoral Commission to amend its posture in the compilation of a new voters register.

The Electoral Commission, in spite of its stiff opposition from political parties and  Civil Society Organisation (CSO’s) against the compilation of a new voters register, has stated that the exercise will begin in the month of June.

On Wednesday 25th May 2020 five political parties which include; the National Democratic Congress (NDC), People’s National Congress (PNC), United Front Party(UFP), Eagle Party(EP) and the All People’s Congress (APC) walked out of an ongoing  Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting due to the same ECs indifference to the views of the parties.

The PNC representative walked out of the meeting stating that ” I came here purposely to inquire why the EC has not been able to respond to our letter and the response I got was that,  â€˜then why are you here, so I walked out.” He said

Yaro in an interview on Ahotor FM morning show added that the Electoral Commission should be a listening body and listen to the political parties before commencing the exercise of compiling a new register.

The Electoral Commission should sit down with all the political parties and come out with a better solution as well, elections in a whole brings about confusion and disputes because people have different ideas.
