She is married to former Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and together they have four children. The couple got married in 2004 after meeting through mutual friends.
Samira served as Ghana’s Second Lady from 2017 to 2025. During her time in the role, she became known for her advocacy for women and children, education, healthcare and humanitarian causes. She is also the founder of the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects (SEHP), which has undertaken initiatives in health, education and women’s empowerment.
