Sam George Elected Unanimously to Chair AU Digital Technology Committee

Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has been unanimously elected chair of the African Union’s Specialised Technical Committee on Communication and Information and Communication Technology (STC-CICT).

The minister’s election marks a significant development for Ghana’s role in shaping Africa’s digital technology and communication agenda. He will serve a two-year term beginning in October 2026.

The election took place during an ongoing meeting of the AU STC-CICT in Gabon, bringing together representatives from member states to discuss issues relating to communication, digital technology and information and communication technology across the continent.

As chair, Sam George is expected to lead the committee’s deliberations and support efforts to strengthen cooperation among African countries in advancing digital development.

The committee plays an important role in addressing continental priorities relating to digital transformation, telecommunications, information technology and the development of policies to improve connectivity and access to digital services.

His unanimous election is expected to provide Ghana with an opportunity to contribute to discussions on Africa’s digital future, including efforts to expand digital inclusion, strengthen technological capacity and promote innovation across member states.
