Private vehicles, taxis, trotros, commercial vehicles and other unauthorised road users will not be permitted to use the designated Ayalolo BRT contra flow lanes under a new traffic arrangement announced by government.
The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs says the measure forms part of efforts to ensure the safe and efficient operation of Ayalolo BRT services during peak hours.
The contra flow arrangement begins Tuesday, September 29, 2026, on selected sections of the Amasaman–Accra, Adenta–Accra and Kasoa–Accra corridors.
The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service will provide operational traffic control and enforcement support along the affected corridors, particularly at strategic locations and major intersections.
Government has therefore urged motorists and commercial transport operators to comply with traffic officers throughout the implementation of the arrangement.
It has also appealed to pedestrians, businesses and residents along the affected corridors to support the intervention.
The Ministry says the initiative is designed to facilitate Ayalolo BRT services into the Central Business District during peak periods while improving public transportation and reducing congestion.
Meanwhile, the management of Ayalolo BRT is scheduled to hold a press briefing on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 10:00am to provide the public with further details about the intervention.
Government says it will continue engaging transport operators, road users, local authorities and other stakeholders to ensure the arrangement delivers its intended benefits while maintaining road safety.
The public has been urged to cooperate with traffic officers and give priority to the safe and efficient movement of mass public transport.
